Eurovision: Fans fume as Mel Giedroyc speaks OVER Hannah Waddingham speaking French

Eurovision fans were left fuming during Saturday night’s hotly-anticipated final when commentator Mel Giedroyc spoke over Hannah Waddingham speaking French.

Host Hannah, 48, has shown off her French-speaking talents on the show this week, and once again flaunted her language skills during the 2023 Song Contest’s final.

However, viewers were left unimpressed when commentator Mel, 54, decided to speak over Hannah’s words in English on the BBC‘s live broadcast.

While the Ted Lasso star addressed French-speaking viewers, Mel instead decided to read out the voting rules for UK viewers in English.

After briefly speaking French herself, Mel said: ‘While Hannah is speaking French, I should let you know that viewers in the UK can vote for your favourite act later in the show by phone and via the EBU’s Eurovision app but you cannot vote by text, put those thumbs away!’

It is not the first time that Hannah caused a stir and impressed viewers with her French-language skills as she previously flaunted the talent at the semi-finals.

The actress stunned viewers around the world as she spoke in fluent French to recite the contest’s rules at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool.

Her co-presenters Alesha Dixon, 44, and Ukrainian singer Julia Sanina, 32, had read from the teleprompter in English.

Impressed by Hannah’s abilities, viewers at home rushed to Twitter to heap praise on her.

One joked, ‘Hannah Waddingham speaking French, Maybe I’m not gay.’

Another wrote: ‘People train their entire lives to be as effortlessly charismatic and likeable as Hannah Waddingham #eurovision.’

Someone else said, ‘Watching the #Eurovision semi-finals, massive crush on Hannah Waddingham… she is just what I want to be when I grow up.’

One Australian viewer quipped, ‘Hannah Waddingham speaks French and I’m a little gayer than I was 5 minutes ago… #SBSEurovision.’

And one more concluded, ‘I think I’m now in love with Hannah Waddingham. Beautiful, funny, great voice and she can speak French #Eurovision #EUROVISION2023.’

Hannah had also sent fans wild as she made a cheeky dig at Amanda Holden‘s language skills while speaking French herself.

Hannah left viewers in hysterics when she made a cheeky dig at Amanda Holden – who awarded points on behalf of the United Kingdom during the 2021 ceremony.

Amanda came under fire at the time for making an awkward joke while presenting, quipping she didn’t know the difference between between French and Dutch, with shocked viewers branding her ‘arrogant’.

Hannah appeared to reference the blunder as she took on presenting duties, explaining the voting rules for the semi-final in perfect French before saying pointedly: ‘You see Europe, some of us Brits do bother to learn another language.’
