Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly enjoy a double date with their wives at Newcastle match

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly celebrated Newcastle United’s historic top four finish in the Premier League on Monday following their draw against Leicester City.

The presenting duo enjoyed a double date with their wives Anne-Marie Corbett and Ali Astall respectively at the match in St James’ Park, after shocking fans last week by announcing that they were quitting Saturday Night Takeaway.

After Newcastle’s match ended in a 0-0 draw, earning the vital point they needed to secure a Champions League spot, the pair took to Instagram to celebrate.

Posting an elated snap from inside the ground, they captioned the post: ‘Hey ho let’s go! #nufc.’

During the match, Ant and Dec were both seen chatting to their respective wives while sat in the stands.

Last week, the pair stunned fans by announcing that they were putting Saturday Night Takeaway back on hiatus after its 20th series next year.

But while the pair are still committed to I’m A Celebrity and other shows, MailOnline has also revealed that ITV are holding crisis talks after they quit Saturday Night Takeaway.

Insiders at ITV say bosses fear they have failed to bring through a new generation of stars as viewers grow tired of their ‘Fab Four’ – Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, and Ant and Dec.

The Geordies’ shock decision to pause their long running series comes after underwhelming ratings for the latest season – and as the feud between Holly and Phil sees This Morning viewers switch off.

Sources have told MailOnline there is no real succession plan in place should the popularity of the ‘Fab Four’ begin to significantly dwindle, with insiders believing the broadcaster should have prepared for this ’15 years ago’.

Meanwhile, Ant and Dec fans believe they’ve worked out the real reason the pair have walked away from their long-running entertainment show.

The hosts confirmed the surprising news in an Instagram video, stating that the multiple BAFTA-winning show will take a break after 2024.

But fans reckon that the timing of their exit announcement perfectly coincides with the much publicised off-screen feud of ITV pals Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, with much speculation about whether the presenters will remain at the helm of This Morning.

Taking to the comments of Ant and Dec’s bombshell announcement on social media, some fans shared their theory that the Geordie duo are preparing to take over as hosts of This Morning.

Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, produced by Lifted Entertainment (part of ITV Studios) and Mitre Studios, will return next year for its 20th series.

The series has spawned numerous iconic segments, including Win the Ads, Undercover, Get Out Of Me Ear, The End of Show Show and the Happiest Minute of the Week.

The most recent series launched in February with ITV1’s biggest overnight audience of the year, attracting 6.4 million viewers, and the biggest entertainment audience across any channel.

The show’s combination of live, high energy, feel good fun has seen the format achieve multiple BAFTA and National Television Awards since launching in 2002.

Kevin Lygo, ITV Managing Director, Media and Entertainment, said: ‘When you think of Saturday night television you think of Saturday Night Takeaway.

‘Over 20 series the show has become a cultural phenomenon, and while we eagerly anticipate what Ant & Dec have up their sleeves for the 2024 series, we completely understand their desire to take a pause, take stock, and think about what the next incarnation of the show might look like.’
