Clarkson’s Farm season 2 breaks Amazon viewing records and beat Love Island and The Brits

Controversial TV host Jeremy Clarkson has seen the second series of his show Clarkson’s Farm breaking Amazon Video viewing records after it’s release last week.

The season 2 premiere of the farming show was watched by 4.3M viewers according to Barb, the official audience research group.

The figures made it Amazon’s highest rated show since the company began reporting viewing figures in November 2021, beating smash hit The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which launched on the platform last year with 3.2M viewers.

The show also beat TV heavy weights last week with a bigger audience than Love Island and the BRIT Awards.

It comes after reports the star, 62, was being dropped from the streaming service and calls for the show to be axed following the star’s recent scandal involving Meghan Markle

It comes after Jeremy was left battling to save his career amid the fallout from his column, with both ITV and Amazon hinting at dropping the former Top Gear star.

In the article, published in The Sun, Clarkson wrote he dreamed of the Meghan Markle being forced to ‘parade naked’ through British towns, prompting a record-breaking 25,100 complaints to The Independent Press Standards Organisation.

The former Top Gear star, 62, later apologised admitting he had ‘put my foot in it’ and accepted his language was ‘disgraceful’ and that he was ‘profoundly sorry’. The Sun also apologised.

Meanwhile, the Duke of Sussex branded the article about his wife ‘horrific, hurtful and cruel’ and questions were raised about whether Clarkson would keep his lucrative TV deals.

Earlier this week Clarkson’s Farm star Kaleb Cooper shared a sweet post of himself cuddling son Oscar as they watched the Amazon show together.

With a cider in hand, the father-and-son duo looked snuggly as they sat under a dinosaur blanket in their living room.

Kaleb,  24,  stars as Jeremy‘s right-hand man on the popular show, which charts the presenter’s hapless attempt at running his own smallholding in Oxfordshire.

And writing in the comments, Kaleb wrote: ‘Clarkson farm s2 on ✅ now time to relax after a busy day.

‘Oscar loves Clarkson’s farm that’s all he wants on.thank you all so much for the lovely messages ❤. Cider in hand for refreshment of course.’

Despite him being a controversial figure, Clarkson’s farming show has earned the former Top Gear host a legion of fans and the new series was released last week.

The return to Diddly Squat after the first series in June 2021 sees Jeremy, his level-headed girlfriend Lisa and lovable aide Kaleb tackle a series of challenges – including Brexit delays, council struggles, badger enemies and a plan to open a restaurant.

As well as these woes, Jeremy suffers the pain of losing half his thumb in a potato-peeler accident, makes enemies with a camera-shy cow and scalds himself on home-grown chillis.

Meanwhile, last month, Kaleb revealed he and his fiancée Taya are expecting a baby girl.

The farmer shared the happy news as he posted a gender reveal video where he and Taya were joined by several family and friends.

The couple stood in front of two tractors and counted down from three until pink smoke blew out of the exhaust as their loved ones cheered.

In the clip, Kaleb could be heard saying: ‘Shall we all countdown together? I’m a bit nervous actually.’

Alongside the post, he wrote: ‘Only one way to do a Gender Reveal.’

Kaleb was inundated with well wishes, with one writing: ‘Congratulations. What a wonderful way to do the reveal’.

Another added: ‘Best gender reveal ever, and believe me, there are A LOT on the reels. Congrats’.

A third wrote: ‘Congrats to you both! Easily the best gender reveal that I’ve seen.’

CLARKSON’S FARM SERIES TWO: The Reviews

THE GUARDIAN

‘Infectiously funny’

Rating:

‘It would be too much to say Jeremy Clarkson is complex, or an enigma. He does not contain multitudes. But he does have the disarming ability to present different versions of himself. At one end of the Clarkson spectrum is the Right-wing bully columnist, at the other is the presenter of Clarkson’s Farm, a perfectly agreeable celebrity-out-of-their-depth reality show. It’s something the man’s many, not-incorrect detractors might not have thought him capable of: harmless fun’

INDEPENDENT

‘Jeremy is a terrifically articulate and charismatic advocate for rural issues’

Rating:

‘Those with a low Clarkson-tolerance will struggle with Clarkson’s Farm. It is filled with Clarksonisms and blokey pomposity… But what Clarkson understands – has always understood, from the early days of Top Gear – is that there is a sweet spot of confected reality, somewhere between Keeping Up with the Kardashians and the News at Ten’

STUFF

‘The UK’s favourite acerbic antediluvians still makes addictive television’

‘Clarkson’s Farm continues to delight, showcasing a softer side to the now 62-year-old, while still proving that he is just as irascible, irrepressible and irresponsible as ever… Throw in some adroitly and humorously chosen classic soundtrack cuts (featuring everyone from The Who to Simon and Garfunkel) and, love him or hate him, you can’t help but be captivated by Clarkson’s attempts to transform his farm into something that’s both profitable and sustainable’

He wrote: ‘She said yes! 2022 has been an amazing year. This definitely tops it off. I honestly can’t wait for 2023 and all the following years after that. @tayaaaxx you’re my best friend as well as the love of my life. Was a long wait for this (6 and a half years)’

Taya couldn’t contain her excitement and commented: ‘I LOVE YOU CANT WAIT TO MARRY YOU!’

Kaleb shot to fame for his role on Clarkson’s Farm, which sees The Grand Tour presenter Jeremy Clarkson attempt to run Diddly Squat Farm.

The second series of the Amazon Prime Video show is due to air in early 2023, but its future beyond that was confirmed recently, with Amazon renewing it for a third series.

The announcement comes after Kaleb recently said that Jeremy had no farming experience ahead of opening Diddly Squat farm and hasn’t yet got better at the job.

Kaleb who has worked in the industry since he was a schoolboy, appeared on This Morning today where he said Clarkson has ‘very little knowledge and that is very dangerous’.

The young farmer went on to say he has been farming since the age of 13, so this is not a job for him but a ‘way of life’.

Clarkson's Farm will return to Amazon Prime for season two on February 10
