Peter Crouch gives an insight into his relationship with Abbey Clancy in documentary trailer

Peter Crouch has joked about his love life and given an insight into his early romance with Abbey Clancy in a trailer for his upcoming documentary.

The former footballer, 42, is set to star in That Peter Crouch Film, a documentary about his incredible rise to success in sport despite being judged for his height.

A trailer for the new film was released by Prime Video on Wednesday and sees Peter offering fans a candid insight into his career and relationship with wife Abbey, 37.

The clip has its fair share of emotional moments but Peter also lightheartedly opens up about his struggles in love during his early 20s before he met model Abbey.

In the trailer, Peter – who measures at 6ft7 – recalled feeling ‘different’ due to being an ‘incredibly tall’ footballer before Abbey spoke about first laying eyes on him.

Speaking about first seeing Peter in a picture, Abbey said: ‘I remember seeing Pete for the first time in the paper, he looked incredibly vulnerable, like he needs looking after.’

While Peter said of his love life in his early 20s: ‘I only really had like one girlfriend before Ab.’

Abbey then sweetly called her husband – who she tied the knot with in June 2011 – ‘gorgeous’ as they proved they are still as in love as ever.

Peter then went on to make an amusing joke about his love life before meeting Abbey, quipping: ‘I couldn’t pull a hamstring until I was about 21!’

Clips also flashed up on screen giving an insight into Peter and Abbey’s home life with their four children – Sophia, 12, Liberty, seven, Johnny, five, and Jack, three.

The family were shown eating at the dinner table together, before another clip saw Abbey and Peter sitting on their bed surrounded by his football shirts from over the years.

Peter met Abbey at a bar in Liverpool back in 2005 when he was playing as a striker for the city’s team and they went on to tie the knot six years later.

Elsewhere in the trailer, Peter also spoke to Harry Redknapp about why he decided to make the insightful documentary, which is slated for release on June 22.

As videos of him as a youngster playing football flashed up on screen, Peter explained: ‘Starting out as a kid, I dreamt of being a footballer.

‘It was all I thought about, it was all I wanted to do, but to get there, that was difficult.’

While clips of Peter playing for Liverpool at the peak of his career then flashed up, Steven Gerrard said: ‘There was a lot of people who had an opinion on him.’

‘There’s never a dull moment when Crouchy’s in the room,’ Steven added, gushing over his friend’s incredible success as a footballer.

An Amazon Prime description of That Peter Crouch film describes it as ‘the true story behind football’s most unlikely hero’.

It continues: ‘Belittled for his height and shunted from club to club, all logic suggests that he should not have had a successful career.

‘The film explores the long, arduous journey to reach the top – filled with twists, stumbling blocks, self-doubt, and alienation.

‘After nearly 25 years since signing his first professional contract, Peter Crouch has only one question to ask himself… how did he get here?’

The trailer’s release comes after Peter’s wife Abbey cheekily revealed how he tells her he wants to have sex by sending her three emojis.

She got candid about the couple’s love life during an episode of their podcast The Therapy Crouch.

Abbey told how her footballer beau will often send her a beaver emoji followed by an aubergine emoji whenever they’re alone in the house.

She said: ‘I just don’t know how long I can go on with these sexual emojis that you keep sending me.

‘If the kids go to school and he hears me like, put the key in the door I’m in and no one’s in the house, I just get a beaver and an aubergine emoji text. I’m not even gonna say the last one but you can imagine what it is.’

Peter laughed and confirmed: ‘There’s three emojis.’

‘I’ve got a bit of hydration in there,’ Abbey said, referring to the splashing sweat emoji as Peter continued laughing.

‘How vile is that? Am I supposed to go, ‘Oh yeah, now I’m bang up for it’,’ she added.

Peter said: ‘The beaver emoji I think is the best emoji out of the lot. It’s incredible.’

Abbey asked: ‘Do you think you’re gonna get lucky with those messages?

Peter replied: ‘I’m just letting you know, I’m putting my cards on the table.’
