Rita also wore a huge billowing skirt which flowed out behind her, before she later ditched the train as she showed off her dance moves.

She styled her honey tresses in natural waves loosely across her shoulders and bolstered her natural beauty with a high-glamour make-up palette.

She was seen holding hands with one dancer as they took to the stage together for one number, with Rita taking to Twitter ahead of the show to introduce the star.

In a poignant post, Rita explained that she would be joined on stage by dancer and Ukrainian refugee Sofiia Kladko, 12, for her performance.

She shared a snap of herself backstage with the dancer, who has been living in Warrington since 2022.

Alongside the picture, she wrote: ‘This is Sofiia – A dancer and refugee from Rivne, in the northwest of Kyiv. She has been living in Warrington since 2022.

‘To me, Sofiia represents strength and hope during these turbulent, tragic and changeable times.

‘We must not forget the privilege the UK has to play its part as Host Nation at the Eurovision 2023 for the Ukraine after the Kalush Orchestra won the contest last year.

‘The plight of Sofiia’s family reminds me of the incredible journey my family went through when I was her age, and how I will be forever grateful to the UK for showing us kindness and compassion.

‘Sofiia opens my performance this evening playing with a ball, representing the loss of childhood for these poor refugees.

‘I hope this amazing song contest opens hearts across Europe and the world. We love you Ukraine, we all perform tonight, for you.’

Rita finally took to the Eurovision stage after she auditioned to sing for Britain at the song contest in 2009, before pulling out after getting through to the final stages of the competition.

Rita, who was just 17 years old at the time, later said she decided to pull out because she ‘felt inside that it wasn’t right for me’ and went on to shoot to global fame.

The Eurovision semi-finals are taking place across two days and will feature an array of performances, including from Eurovision legends and Ukrainian and British stars.

The Poison hitmaker performed during the interval of the first semi-final on Tuesday, followed by The X Factor star Rebecca Ferguson.

Soul singer Rebecca, 36, performed alongside Ukrainian singer Alyosha, who came in 10th place while represented Ukraine in the song contest back in 2010.

Amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Alyosha was forced to leave her country and loved ones behind and will share her personal journey with a rendition of Duran Duran’s Ordinary World.

Rebecca’s performance came just months after she welcomed her fourth child, and her first with her husband Jonny Hughes, on Valentine’s Day.

Over her career, Rebecca has had top 20 songs including Nothing’s Real But Love, Backtrack and I Hope, according to Official Charts.

All her albums, 2011’s Heaven, 2013’s Freedom, 2015’s Lady Sings The Blues and 2016’s Superwoman have made it into the top 10.

The second semi-final will be broadcast on May 11 and will feature two live interval performances from Mariya Yaremchuk and Zlata Dziunka.

Mae Muller will be the UK’s entry for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, which is being hosted in the UK on behalf of war-torn Ukraine, with her track I Wrote A Song.

But Mae’s latest performance of her self penned track was slammed when she appeared to forget the words.

After a clip of Mae, 25, on stage was shared to TikTok last month, fans have been left fearing for her hopes in the competition.

Despite oozing confidence on stage, she seemingly opted to hum to the music as the excited audience did all the singing.

The Eurovision Grand Final will take place on May 13 and will be hosted by presenters such as Alesha Dixon, Graham Norton, Hannah Waddingham and Julia Sanina.
