Love Island launch to reveal shock new twist as producers make change to the show

Love Island returns for its 10th series tonight and viewers can expect a brand-new twist in the opening episode.

For the first time in the show’s history, female and male Islanders will enter the TV villa at the same time and begin getting to know each other right away, forming those romantic relationships from the get-go.

In previous years, the girls were always first to strut into the villa, where they excitedly meet and open a bottle of bubbly before being joined by the boys, who typically enter one by one.

But in this year’s first twist, which marks the beginning of unexpected happenings on the show as bosses promise to keep the Islanders on their toes this summer, contestants have the chance to begin grafting from the moment they step foot in the villa.

A TV source told MailOnline: ‘The girls have always entered the villa before the boys but for the first time, two females will enter followed by the first male Islander and already, sparks begin to fly.

‘The viewers have already chosen who is coupling up with who, so the Islanders getting to know each other before being put in their pairs only means that the drama will ensue quicker than usual.’

Ruchee Gurung and Jess Harding are the first to walk into the villa and to their surprise are joined by Mitchell Taylor, followed by Ella Thomas and then André Furtado.

Maya Jama, in her first seductive slow-motion walk into the villa, announces that the Islanders should gather around the fire pit, as she introduces the remaining five contestants to the rest of the group.

Tonight’s launch episode will be the first time the 2023 summer cast meet after being kept in isolation for weeks ahead of their TV debut.

But two Islanders quickly discover that they have some history after model Ella Thomas reveals she knows semi-professional footballer Tyrique Hyde, who awkwardly struggles to recall their prior connection.

Eventually, Tyrique realises that they previously met at a nightclub in London’s Mayfair, but Ella was wearing a blonde wig at the time, which is the reason why he had difficulty remembering her.

They are just two contestants from the lineup that the public have been given the chance to put together after Maya announced last week that ITV2 viewers had the power to matchmake this series.

After meeting for the first time and being put in their couples, Islanders will share a bed together as they settle into Love Island life, which begins today and lasts a potential eight weeks.

Maya, who wore a Cult Gaia crochet gown for her entrance, announced to the cast, ‘I think it’s fair to say on Love Island you should 100 per cent expect the unexpected.’

The presenter told MailOnline ahead of the launch that her outfits are prepared in advance of each episode and her summer series looks will be her sexiest yet.

She said: ‘I have the best glam in the world and they transform me every day.

‘We have meetings now because of the pressure of living up to last season’s looks. My first outfit is a cutout, there are lots of cutout bits, that’s all I can tell you. I feel like that was a bit of a theme last time, I did loads of cutout bits.’

Staying true to her word, Maya’s glamorous first look emphasises her curvaceous figure and bares a hint of skin in all the right places.

  • Love Island airs tonight at 9pm and on ITV2 and ITVX
