The 1975’s Matty Healy QUITS social media and vows to stop being a ‘f***ing a**hole’

Matty Healy has said he is quitting social media because he wants to stop being a ‘f***ing a**hole’.

The 1975 singer, 34, plans to stop voicing his opinions on Twitter and Instagram and said he has ‘had enough’ of the sites.

Fans of the indie pop musician will have already noticed he deactivated his Instagram over the weekend.

According to The Sun, Matty announced he was turning over a new leaf while on stage in Adelaide, Australia on Monday.

He said: ‘It’s (coming off social media) because everything happens in eras. The 1975 is a very eras band. The era of me being a f***ing a***hole is coming to an end. I’ve had enough.

‘I perform all the time and it’s my job and I love doing this but I can’t perform off the stage any more as I just want to be a bloke.’

Matty, who is the son of Loose Women presenter Denise Welch and actor Tim Healy, has raised eyebrows before with his antics.

The star has previously eaten raw meat on stage and French kissed his fans during performances.

In May 2020, Matty deactivated his Twitter amid the response he received with an ill-received tweet touching on the death of George Floyd.

Floyd, a 46-year-old Minneapolis man, died after a police officer kneeled on the back of his neck (while he was handcuffed), rendering him unable to breath in a horrifying incident that was caught on camera.

Matt tweeted: ‘If you truly believe that ‘ALL LIVES MATTER’ you need to stop facilitating the end of black ones,’ along with a link to his track Love It If We Made It.

The song’s lyrics include the verses: ‘We’re f–king in a car, shooting heroin /Saying controversial things just for the hell of it /Selling melanin and then suffocate the black men /Start with misdemeanors and we’ll make a business out of them.’

The tie-in left many fans angered as they felt the vocalist was using the tragic death as a promotional vehicle.

Prior to deactivating, Matty offered an apology and said he’s better stated through his music than his raw words.

‘Sorry I did not link my song in that tweet to make it about me it’s just that the song is literally about this disgusting situation and speaks more eloquently than I can on Twitter,’ he said.

More recently, Matty appeared to hit back at fellow artist Youngblud in a foul-mouthed rant on Instagram in February.

The singer took to social media a week after her was seemingly branded a ‘privileged white guy’ by the Yorkshire rapper.

Matty shared a foul-mouthed rant where he mimicked an exaggerated Northern accent with a filter placing the word Emo on both cheeks.

It comes after Matty faced criticism from fans following an podcast appearance where he discussed New York rapper Ice Spice’s heritage.

Speaking on The Adam Friedland Show with his bandmates he debated if the singer was Hawaiian or Chinese and impersonated foreign accents before saying he believed Harry Styles ‘gets a free pass’ over alleged ‘queer-bating’.

In a now viral tweet Yungblud wrote, seemingly in reference to the podcast apperence: ‘Love listening to three privileged white dudes sit around and objectify a young black female artist who’s blowing up. welcome to your 30’s I guess’.

After a week of not responding Matty then shared a clip of Tissues hitmaker to his Instagram Stories as the star read a book and smoked on stage, writing: ‘I feel a bit responsible and I am really sorry.’

He then posted a video of himself appearing to mimic the singer saying: ‘You alright guys, I’m so f****** angry’.

‘Someone’s blown themselves up in the Ukraine and eh we’re not gonna stand for that because we’re the underrated youth f****** generation and that’s what we stand for,’ seemingly in reference Yungblud’s 2019 album The Underrated Youth.

He continued: ‘I don’t stand for stuff, I stand against stuff… I just stand against stuff and it tends to be the most morally obvious stuff… f*** the patriarchy!
