Hermione Norris has said giving your child a smartphone is akin to supplying them with a hand grenade.
The Cold Feet star, 56, is a mother to son Wilf, 18, and daughter Hero, 15, who she shares with her husband Simon Wheeler, who she married in 2002.
Reflecting on mothering her own children, Hermione admitted she finds smartphones ‘very worrying’ as she spoke about the impact of social media.
‘I find it all very worrying’: Hermione Norris has said giving your child a smartphone is akin to supplying them with a hand grenade
‘As the mother of teenagers, I find it all very worrying,’ she said.
‘When we hand our children these devices, it’s like handing them a grenade and saying: ‘Just go and play with that responsibly.’
‘None of us knew it initially, but the impact of social media can be devastating.’
She added: ‘Companies have to start being responsible about what can be shared and accessed, and the effect that certain material has on minds.

‘Also, the Government has a responsibility to do something about it — and soon.’
In 2019, Hermione also voiced her worries about the pressures on youngsters to conform to an idealised body image.
However, she said she’d still consider having the ‘full works’ of plastic surgery as she spoke about ‘growing’ into herself.
She told Woman & Home magazine: ‘I’d have the full works. I’d have a tummy tuck, a boob lift. I’d have it all – if it made me feel better.’
Hermione previously admitted to Good Housekeeping magazine that she felt both ‘gratitude and grief’ when she turned 50.
She said: ‘When I turned 50, it was a time for reflection, and within that there was huge gratitude and grief.
‘You realise there are things that are no longer available to you. Doors have closed and you don’t realise that until you’re there…’
However, Hermione also admitted there is something quite lovely about being at this stage in her life.
She said: ‘There is also a sense of real liberation and freedom. The maps are laid down and there is a sense of satisfaction and joy.’
